Avs edge Stars 4-3

Saturday, October 01, 2005

The Dallas Stars wrapped up the pre-season with a 4-4-0 record after a 4-3 loss to the Colorado Avalanche at the American Airlines Center Saturday night. Niko Kapanen, Stephane Robidas and Jussi Jokinen scored for the Stars, who open the regular season Wednesday against the Los Angeles.

Colorado scored the only goal of the first period and a former Star got it. Pierre Turgeon scored a power play goal on a wrist shot from close range 17:10 into the game to put the Avs up 1-0.

The Stars drew even when Kapanen scored early in the second period. After a Robidas shot hit the end boards, Kapanen knocked the rebound past David Aebischer at 2:12 of the second period.

Robidas put the Stars up 2-1 later in the second period. After a nice defensive play in the Stars zone, he joined the rush and scored off a wrist shot at the 8:37 mark.

But just 28 seconds later, with a delayed penalty called on the Stars, Andrew Brunette tied the game when he scored off the rebound of a Joe Sakic shot.

Just 47 seconds after that the Avalanche took the lead when Turgeon scored to finish off a three-on-zero break on Turco.

The Avalanche ran their lead to 4-2 when Jason Krog took a centering pass from Ian Laperriere and scored at 15:40 of the second.

Jokinen made it a 4-3 game with  2:54 left in the game when picked up a loose puck and scored his fifth goal of the pre-season off a backhand shot.
