Stars & ticket
revenues
Friday, May 30, 2008
The Dallas Stars earned $950,000 per game in ticket
revenue this season, which ranked 12th among NHL teams, and earned an
additional $2 million per game for each of their home playoff games.
Those were some of the findings of a published report on ticket revenues
of NHL teams.
The report, published by the Toronto Star and based on
internal NHL documents, also revealed that the six Canadian teams
provide 31 percent of all ticket revenue in the league. That's added
ammunition to the guns of those who are fighting for more teams in
Canada. It also supported the claim of many that the growth of the
Canadian dollar has had a lot to do with the growth of league revenues
since the lockout.
Toronto ($1.9
million per game) and Montreal (1.7 million per game) lead the way as
far as ticket revenue. The
highest ranking U.S.-based team in the New York Rangers ($1.3 million
per game). The Stars were sixth among U.S. teams in ticket revenue per
game.
Here are a few other items on the Stars from Toronto Star report:
- The Stars had 12,500 season ticket holders, down
from 16,500 in 2000-01
- The Stars ticket revenue dropped to $950,000 per
game from $1 million per game in 2006-07
- The Stars, whose average announced attendance was
18,039, led the NHL in complimentary tickets with an average of
2,500 per game
Here's a look at the revenue per game for the 30 NHL
teams:
