Stars News & Notes Tuesday, June 24, 2008 Qualifying offers are due for NHL restricted free agents this week. Here's a look at the Dallas' Stars restricted free agents. The Stars have a total of nine restricted free agents. They have already locked up five players who were scheduled to be RFAs on July 1, including four who were signed to contracts before the season ended. Here's a look at the nine restricted free agents who are still without contracts. The Stars need to extend qualifying offers to restricted free agents by Wednesday to retain the rights to the players.
Here are the five Stars restricted free agents who have already been signed. Four were signed before the season ended and one - Trevor Daley - was signed after the playoffs ended.
Stars to send some prospects to Peoria St. Louis Blues president John Davidson said Monday that his team's AHL affiliate - the Peoria Rivermen - will accept some Dallas Stars prospects for the 2008-09. "We have had some contact with the Stars," Davidson told the Peoria Star Journal. "They'd like to place some players in Peoria, and that's going to happen. It won't be more than four guys. "We have to decide the best way to do this. Is it going to be a full line, a center, left wing and right wing who will play together? What type of system and coaching will be required? Those are things we're looking at right now. We'll be able to lean on (new Blues assistant general manager) Doug Armstrong for this, because he's familiar with the Dallas operation." Davidson also said the Stars might end up sending an assistant coach to Peoria. Dallas won't, however, be sending a goalie. Davidson said there is no room for a Dallas netminder because St. Louis expects goalies Ben Bishop and Marek Schwarz to be pulling the load in Peoria. "We want our two guys to play. They have to develop. So no, a goalie from Dallas wouldn't be part of it," Davidson said. The Stars are without an AHL affiliate this season because their agreement with Iowa has ended and their new team near Austin won't be ready to go until 2009-10. That means the Stars will have to place players with several AHL teams this coming season.
