Stars qualify six players Thursday, June 26, 2008 The Dallas Stars extended qualifying offers to six players, including Loui Eriksson and B.J. Crombeen, and did not qualify three others, making them unrestricted free agents.
Besides Eriksson and Crombeen, the Stars also gave qualifying offers to forwards Konstantin Pushkarev, Francis Wathier and Vojtech Polak and defenseman Vadim Khomitski. By extending the qualifying offer, the Stars protected their right to match any offer sheet given to a restricted free agent or receive draft pick compensation if they choose not to match the offer sheet. The qualifying offers, which do have not to be signed by the players, expire on July 15. If the players don't sign the offer sheet, the two sides will negotiate a contract. The Stars did not qualify forwards Marius Holtet and Janos Vas and defenseman Jussi Timonen. Those three players will become unrestricted free agents on July 1. Here's an updated look at the list of Dallas Stars players who will become unrestricted free agents next week, when free agent season opens on July 1.
