Stars sign Eriksson to two-year contract Friday, June 27, 2008 The Dallas Stars wrapped up another one of their key roster players Friday, announcing the signing of forward Loui Eriksson to a two-year, $3.2 million deal. "We are very pleased to sign Loui Eriksson to this new contract," Stars co-GM Les Jackson said in a news release. "Loui really started to show some flashes of his potential last season and he seems to be growing into the player we think he can be. We expect Loui’s development and production to continue next season and beyond." Eriksson, who made $650,000 last season, will get paid $1.5 million in 2008-09 and $1.7 million in 2009-10. The 22-year-old Swede had 14 goals and 17 assists in 69 regular season games, and added four goals and four assists in 18 playoff games. Eriksson's contract, which will give him a cap hit of $1.6 million, pushes the Stars to $47.55 million in cap costs for 16 players with one-way contracts. When you factor in players with two-way contracts who are expected to be roster players - defensemen Matt Niskanen and Mark Fistric and goalie Tobias Stephan - the Stars are up to $49.7 million for 19 players. If Swedish prospect Fabian Brunnstrom, who has a cap cost of $2.225 million, is added into the mix the Stars would be up to $51.9 million in cap costs for 20 roster players. A note on Brunnstrom: his cap cost includes $875,000 in compensation (salary and signing bonus) and another $1.35 million in potential performance bonus money. Next season's salary cap has been set at $56.7 million. The Stars are expected to leave themselves some room for acquisitions and to cover injury costs. Estimates are they are looking to start the season at about $52 million or $53 million. Here's a position-by-position breakdown of the Stars' possible roster for 2008-09.
Report: Stars to send AHL prospects to Peoria, Manitoba, Hamilton and maybe Iowa A report in the Peoria Journal Star Thursday night said the Dallas Stars will send their AHL players to Peoria, Hamilton and Manitoba next season. The report said there is a chance the Stars will also send a couple of players to Iowa as well. Earlier this week St. Louis Blues president John Davidson confirmed to the Journal Star that Peoria would accept some Dallas prospects. The Stars are having to send their AHL prospects to several AHL teams this season because Dallas is without an AHL affiliate. The Stars are expected to have an affiliate in the Austin area for the 2009-10 season.
