Stars News & Notes: Boucher back on the ice Tuesday, May 06, 2008 Stars defenseman Philippe Boucher was back on the ice Tuesday, taking part in the team's optional skate in Frisco. It was just the second time he's skated since going out with a hip injury following Game 3 of the first round series against Anaheim. "I skated ten minutes yesterday and did a little more today since it was an optional," Boucher said after he got off the ice Tuesday. "I just want to go out there and try it and see how it feels tomorrow." Boucher said it's too early to tell if he'll be able to play in the Western Conference Finals against the Red Wings. "We'll see. It's early," he said. "I've done a lot of things off the ice that it has reacted well to, now we'll see how it reacts on the ice." Boucher will make the trip to Detroit, but Stars coach Dave Tippett said he doesn't expect Boucher to be ready to start the series. It's been a tough season for Boucher. He played only 38 games during the regular season due to shoulder problems. He missed 38 games after undergoing shoulder surgery, came back and injured his other shoulder, forcing him to miss six more games. Now, this latest injury. "The second best thing to playing is being on a team that is winning," said Boucher. "A team that is sacrificing, a team that is doing all the right things to move on. Of course I'd like to be on the ice, but it's been a fun ride. It's a little frustrating when you look at how the season went [with the injuries]. You can't let that bother you." Boucher played the first three games of the playoffs, and said the Stars were a confident going into the postseason. That's a confidence that's been enhanced with the series wins over Anaheim and San Jose. "Even though everybody looked at the month of March, this group was a confident group going in," Boucher said. "Obviously beating the defending champs and an excellent San Jose team just adds to that confidence." Barnes update Stars forward Stu Barnes, who missed the last three games of the San Jose series with concussion-like symptoms, did not skate on Tuesday. He did, however, work out off the ice. "We'll find out tomorrow," Barnes said when asked about his status Tuesday. "We haven't discussed it any further than what's going on the next morning. That's showing up and see where we go from there." Barnes, who suffered the injury late in Game 3 when he was hit hard by San Jose forward Jonathan Cheechoo, will make the trip to Detroit with the team. "This time of year everybody wants to be out there," Barnes said, "But you have to go through the process." Notes
Quotable "When people are counting you out there is a lot to prove. Nobody gave us a chance against Anaheim, nobody gave us a chance against San Jose. I am sure there will be a lot of people who put us in an underdog role this series. we’re a very confident group that has strength in how we play together. No one individual is going to take us to the promised land. We have to do it as a group." Stars coach Dave Tippett
