Guerin results: Round three

Wednesday, June 09, 2004

Here is the third and final round of results of our survey asking readers what they think about the speculation that the Stars could try to trade Bill Guerin in the 45 days after the Stanley Cup is decided.

The exact questions were: "Do you think the Stars should try to trade him? Do you think anyone will be interested? "

I like Bill Guerin & would like him to stay with the Stars, but if the deal is right & they can pick up good young talent & reduce payroll. The Stars need to do what they need to do to stay competitive.

Highly skilled players that are not willing to do the dirty work are becoming less valuable. The Stars should try to trade him, but won't be successful.

YES!!!! he doesn't get along with Mo at all. he can score goals but that's it. he is not worth 9 million dollars. get rid of him!!!! in other words BUH-bye

Don't trade him. I bought his jersey and only have a season out of it so far.

We need to inject some young blood into this team and I think this would be their chance to do it. Rumour has it that Dallas would have to eat 4 million of Guerin' Contract. Rumour also has it that Keenan will be given an extra 10 million to spend, and WE can let him spend it all in one place.Guerin,Arnott and our 20th pick to Fla for Olli Jokinen,Huselius, and the 7th pick and since we might have to eat some salary they can throw in Hagman. I would like to see Weiss come here though.

no

Several teams would give up good picks or young talent for Bill Guerin, who knows

Trade him! All he has done is cause problems and unrest in the dressing room since he's been here. Added to that his huge salary hasn't got close to equalling his on-ice production.
The Stars are well better off without him

Just my .02; I think the Stars did a huge disservice to Guerin when they shopped him at the draft last year in order to keep Hatcher. After his injury and everything he went through to try and get back for the finals, that's got to hurt a guy mentaly whether it's a business decision or not, especially after the show they put on to recruit him. If there was the least bit of underlying resentment from Guerin's part, or anyone on the team, there's no telling how it could have manifested in the locker room. After watching players like Lacavalier and Andreychuk disappear in the SC final, I can see more of how that could have happened to Guerin and Morrow. These guys are used to losing in the finals; this team may need another year together to gel and then could play like they did post All-Star game throughout the season. But not at a 65 mil price tag. Hence, the root of the problem.

Better Guerin, than MO! The Dallas Stars better not even consider trading MO! Give the man a break about this past season...he has more than proven over the years what an awesome talent and player he is for this franchise: he IS the Dallas Stars! The Hockey-world knows him as such, and so do us fans. He is NOT finished; plus, he is proud of and loves his team, the Dallas Stars, and wants to bring Ol' Stanley "home" again. You don't kick a man when he is down! He will be stronger for this past season. Trade Guerin, bring back HULL, and acquire whomever else the owner wants: A-Rod was my player, but...didn't Armstrong prove he wants players on the team that can WIN and be an encouragement for the team and are willing to "stick it out" to a VICTORY, unlike A-Rod proved he can't? I don't think Armstrong will make mistakes like he has in the immediate past...Live and Learn!!!!!!

Trade him. If any team he has put on the list will trade for him... then do it. I'd take 2 or 3 good cheaper players for Guerin.

Yes, trade him......he is the most "ME" centered player we have ever seen! Can't help but think a lot of Mo's problems this year was from Billy thinking he deserved the C. Give me a break. We didn't see him crawling across the ice for anything, did we?

Guerin is an extremely soft offensive player who does not have the stones to produce in big games. He's essentially a nancy, a girlie-boy. If the incompetent Hicks will pay a hefty portion of the remaining contract, Guerin will hopefully be moved for a bag of sticks.

The stars have to trade him. him and modano took up a lot of money, and one of them has to go. the stars can't trade modano, he's the face of the organization. and he is the reason hockey worked in texas. and if we traded billy then it would free up room for hull to come back. so TRADE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey if he doesn't get along with Mike regardless of him out scoring Mike we just have to get rid of him. I mean why shouldn't we follow the trend. Hitch got on Mo's nerves and Hitch isn't here anymore (with a little help from Eddie of course)

He carried the (scoring) team in the beginning of the year but was non-existent in the playoffs.
Not worth the contract we signed
Send him away

Trade Modano instead.

If AT ALL POSSIBLE, ship his butt out. He plays no defense, totally unwilling to sacrifice his body in front of the net, totally unwilling to dig pucks off the boards, he's got a big freakin mouth, costs WAAAAAAAAAY too much money, and if even HALF the rumors about him the lockerroom are true, he's also a bad teammate.

Get rid of him and get WHATEVER you can for him (which likely wont be much. Anyone who takes him will be doing US the favor and likely wont give up much unless we eat half the money or more). And any money saved HAD BETTER go to sign guys like DiMaio, Sweeney, Klemm, and maybe Arnott or Bure!

All that said, Guerin's probably not going anywhere. For all the reasons I mentioned above, nobody else will want this guy either.

No they shouldn't trade him and nobody will be interested in his contract right now anyway.

Get rid of him. I do like him. But where was he on the road or in the playoffs? We need some young blood. Look at all the money this guy is taking up. The stars can take up 2-3 prospects by losing him. And by all means...Guerin isnt getting any younger. And besides with Junior Lessard, this kids gonna be a superstar. Hes gonna be the future of the Stars. Get rid of him for some new prospects. Let Junior take his slot. And I guarantee were gonna be golden. If the Stars let Lessard shine (something they didnt do with Iginla) hes gonna be amazing. So get Guerin out of here.

Trade Guerrin only if it means keeping Arnott and getting some good defensman! But that may be asking alot right now out of this market.

There have been too many persistent rumors that Guerin was at the root of the chemistry problem involving the Stars, and quite frankly, I believe the rumors: TRADE HIM, NOW!!! Unless I missed it (and I do not think so), Modano has never been involved in a team chemistry problem. If he could not get along with Modano, he had to have had the same problems with other members of the team (like Brenden Morrow). Guerin had a lot to do with why we didn't sign Hatcher, by not agreeing to redesign his contract. He refuses to be accountable for a "piss-poor" post-season and the inability to score on the road. To make his high salary, as well as being at the heart of the team's problems, he should be moved if possible. Regretfully, it will probably not happen. I suggest that he take a hard and long look in the mirror. One more observation please: If the Cowboys had had the same problems the Stars had last year, the local media would have exposed the details of the problem! (especially talk radio)

First of all i have been reading some of the reactions by everybody. When some one says trade modano instead. u need to be shot for saying such stupid s***. where the hell are u from. The reason modano is playing like he is is because him and guerin dont get along. Guerin has never done anything in his career. he never won in edmonton on ryan smyths team. and he never won anywhere. him and modano are enemys.(relate back to the edmonton days) Besides what has he done in the playoffs this yr. nothing. ATLEAST MODANO DID SOMETHING IN THE PLAYOFFS. Besides we are getting hull back this yr which means modano will score 35 goals or more. we dont need guerin if where going to get hull. why is because hull scores more and he helps motivate and carry a team. people talk about power forwards and grit. we dont need guerin for that we got ott and downey and erskine. if we trade guerin we need to get a faceoff guy like jokinen and we need to get huselis to. cut his salary and gets some good draft picks and some
good players. and some hard hitting d men. or just bring back hatcher.(the biggest mistake dallas has made since letting hull go.)

Trade him. He spends too much time worrying about the CBA and how much money he can bilk, and not enough time worrying about his game.

No, I don't think the Stars should trade him.

Yes, I think other teams would be interested.

Unfortunately, if Hicks is simply looking to lower the payroll, Billy will probably be traded.
