When the Dallas Stars signed Hobey Baker winner Junior Lessard back in April, GM Doug Armstrong referenced the last time the franchise signed college hockey's top player.
That was in 1981 when the Minnesota North Stars signed Neal Broten, whom the team had drafted in 1979. According to the story on the Stars' official web site, Armstrong told Lessard: "Hopefully, your career with us will go like Neal's and we'll see your number up in our rafters."
So just how have Hobey Baker winners done in the NHL? Obviously Broten, who was the first winner back in 1981, had a great NHL career. How about the rest? Here's a look at the numbers.
Stats categories depend on if the player was a skater or a goalie: (G/W= Goals or Wins, A/L= Assists or Losses, P/T= Points or Ties, PIM/GAA= Penalties in Minutes or Goals Against Average)
*Indicates played in NHL in 2003-04
