Avs tops Stars 4-2
Saturday, September 17, 2005
The Dallas Stars opened the 2005 pre-season with a 4-2 loss to
the Colorado Avalanche in Denver Saturday night. Jussi Jokinen
scored both goals for the Stars, who will play Edmonton Sunday
night.
After Colorado took a 2-0 lead on goals by Joe
Sakic and Patrice Brisebois, Jokinen scored two second period
goals to pull the Stars even.
After taking a pass from Mike Modano, Jokinen
skated in on net and beat Avalanche goalie Peter Budaj with a
backhand shot at 4:22 of the second period. A
little more than five minutes later, Jokinen struck again with
an unassisted goal. After stealing the puck, he beat Budaj with
a backhand shot to tie the game at 2-2.
But Sakic scored the game winner with the
Avalanche on a five-on-three power play. Both Yared Hagos and
Jaroslav Svoboda were in the penalty box at the time.
Colorado added an empty net goal to round out the scoring.
