Talks wrap up for the weekFriday, August 31, 2007 The NHL and NHLPA wrapped up their latest round of talks on Friday and will resume discussions Monday. For the week the two sides met for about 28 hours stretched out over four days. "We resumed small group meetings with the league this week and spent the better part of four full days discussing a wide range of issues. Further small group meetings are scheduled starting Monday in Toronto," NHLPA senior director Ted Saskin said in a statement. Saskin and outside counsel John McCambridge represented the PA in the meetings, which were held in New York on Thursday and Friday. Chief legal officer Bill Daly and outside counsel Bob Batterman represented the NHL. There isn't much news trickling out of the meetings as both sides continue to keep a tight light on any specific information. "They're not giving us the bits and pieces," Atlanta Thrashers general manager Don Waddell told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "We've got to measure the deal as a total package. They're going to be pieces we don't like, pieces the players don't like. They're going to wait to give us the whole package at once and I think that's a smart thing." Philadelphia Flyers owner Ed Snider sees signs that things are moving along. "There is going to be a season. Negotiations are ongoing. You know as much as I do. The bottom line is they are meeting six to eight hours a day. They are not wasting each other’s time. Something is going to happen and I have my fingers crossed that something is going to happen soon," Snider said in an interview with Comcast SportsNet's Daily News Live. The Canadian Press did report that there is a very tentative date of August 6 for the NHL Entry Draft. Waddell speculated that it would be about a month after a deal is completed that the league could hold the draft. That could indicate the league is hoping to have everything signed, sealed and delivered by late June to early July considering the current pace of the talks.
