1/12 Quad City Lost 3-2 (SO)

The Iowa Stars went 1-1-1 over the past week to stay at the .500 mark on the season and tread water as far as the standings.

Iowa lost 6-4 in Chicago and then returned home to begin a seven-game homestand. The Stars opened with a 3-2 overtime win over Milwaukee and then followed that up with a 3-2 shootout loss to Quad City.

Iowa, which is 19-19-2-2 on the season, remains in last place in the West Division based on winning percentage.

"We have to keep pushing," Iowa forward Janos Vas told the Des Moines Register. "It’s going to be tough to get into the playoffs."

Taste of the NHL
After wrapping up their Texas road trip last weekend, the Iowa Stars stopped in Dallas to watch the Stars play the Wild, spend some time at the Dr. Pepper StarCenter in Frisco and then fly with the Dallas Stars to Chicago, where both teams played Wednesday.

"It was quite a trip," Iowa center Marty Sertich said on the team's weekly radio show. "To go to Dallas and use the facilities unbelievable. To see those guys, that doesn't get old for me. And then to top it off and ride the jet with them was unbelievable. It was first class treatment all the way."

It was also a chance to catch up with some of the ex-teammates from Iowa like Loui Eriksson, Niklas Grossman, Krys Barch and Mike Smith.

"They are all doing real well," said forward B.J. Crombeen. "They are liking it up there and it's great to see them doing well up there. They worked real hard when they were down here, got their chance and have done real well with it."

The trip also provided inspiration to the guys in Iowa.

"To get little taste of it, the jet and being around the locker room gives you the motivation to go the extra mile and hopefully one day get up there," said Sertich.

Silverthorn is the backup for now
Steve Silverthorn was called up to Iowa from Idaho of the ECHL last week and it looks like he will be sticking around for a while as the backup to Tobias Stephan. That's because Philippe Sauve, who had been backing up Stephan, refused his assignment to the ECHL and was suspended by Iowa according to the Des Moines Register.
