Iowa Stars center Toby Petersen was the team's representative at
the AHL All-Star Classic, which was held in Binghamton, New York on Sunday and
Monday. And Petersen made some news and history.
During Sunday's Skills Competition, Petersen won the fastest
skater competition with a time of 14.001 seconds, the best time in the AHL event
in ten years. The 29-year-old Petersen also bested his time from 2001, when he
was 22-years-old and finished second in the event.
He was asked to offer an explanation for his increased speed.
"Lighter skates, fast ice, lot of work in the weight room, who
knows?" Petersen told reporters. "I have no idea what happened out there."
On Monday Petersen made history, getting the first penalty
shot attempt in AHL All-Star game history and then made more history by scoring
the first penalty shot goal in the event's history.
Petersen ended up with one goal and two
assists in the game, but his PlanetUSA All-Stars lost to the Canadian All-Stars
9-8 in a shootout. |
