The Iowa Stars went 1-1-1 during a three-game swing through Texas this past weekend.

After opening the trip with a 3-1 win in Houston on Friday, the Stars lost 3-2 in overtime in San Antonio on Saturday and then were shutout 5-0 in Houston on Sunday. The loss on Sunday was the fifth time this season that Iowa had lost a game by five goals or more this season.

The Stars are 18-18-2-1 on the season. They are currently sixth in the eight-team West Division based on points, but are in eighth place based on winning percentage.

Although Iowa has struggled at times the first half of the season, Dallas co-GM Les Jackson think they will come on during the second half of the season.

"When you continue to put a bunch of young guys in there it takes time for them to develop," Jackson said on a recent Iowa Stars radio broadcast. "They are around .500 now and the past two years they have been the same and they always make their mark in the second half. That says a lot about our coaches. Dave [Allison] is a good, firm and tough coach. He holds guys accountable. If you are going to win you've got to some way push the guys into the action and he some how, some way gets them do it."

Iowa hooks up with Dallas
After Iowa's game in Houston on Sunday they headed to Dallas, where they took in the Dallas game against Minnesota on Monday. They will also practice in Frisco. The Dallas Stars and Iowa Stars will then fly together to Chicago, where both teams play on Wednesday. The Dallas Stars play the Chicago Blackhawks and the Iowa Stars play the Chicago Wolves. Iowa heads back to Des Moines after that. Dallas will be kicking off a five-game road trip.
Neal out with Knee injury
Iowa forward James Neal will be out for extended time with a knee injury. He was injured in a December 30 game in Peoria when he was checked along the boards.

"He was playing well and it's a big loss for us. He's a big strong forward," Iowa coach Dave Allison said on an Iowa game broadcast. "James is going to take this time and get his core muscles stronger, he's going to come a better player and we are going to look forward to him coming back because he was starting to make an impact on our team. He was making an impact five-on-five, he was starting to kill penalties and he was playing the power play. It was great to see, but we'll get a bump when he comes back."

Among the other injuries:

  • F Aaron Gagnon (shoulder): Missed ten games
  • F Tom Wandell (ribs): Out since late November
