The Iowa Stars hit rock bottom over past week, suffering
an embarrassing loss to Chicago.
The Wolves routed Iowa 10-2 at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des
Moines Saturday night.
"We were terrible," Iowa defenseman Nolan Baumgartner told the
Des Moines Register. "We were bad. Whatever reason. That was their third [game]
in three nights. They had to travel too. It's unacceptable.
"We can't play well one night and be bad the next. I know we've got a young
team, but that's unacceptable. Part of being a professional hockey player is
being consistent and we really have to learn that."
Said Iowa captain Toby Petersen: "We gave up 10 goals and
quite a few of those were losing battles in front of the net or losing battles
in the neutral zone. That spurred their offense. Whatever it is we need to
protect the puck."
Chicago scored its ten goals on 17 shots. Philippe Sauve got
the start and was pulled after allowing four goals on nine shots. Tobias Stephan
went the rest of the way, stopping only two of eight shots.
The loss was Iowa's tenth over the last 15 games (5-9-1) and
left them tied for last in an eight-team West Division.
