Houston at Iowa Stars

Marty Sertich and Toby Petersen each scored two goals and B.J. Crombeen scored as well to lead the Iowa Stars to a 5-4 win over the Houston Aeros in Des Moines Monday evening. Tobias Stephan stopped 32 of 36 shots for the Stars, who won their second straight game and ended the calendar year with a .500 record (17-17-1-1).

Forward Konstantin Pushkarev, who left the team in early November to return home and play in the Russian Super League, returned to Iowa over the weekend and suited up for Monday's game against the Aeros. Pushkarev picked up an assist in his return.

Pushkarev's return was good timing for Iowa, which was missing several forwards. Left wing James Neal, injured in Sunday's game in Peoria, is out with a knee injury. The team is awaiting the results of an MRI. Also missing from the lineup was center Perttu Lindgren, who has an issue with a tooth. Centers Aaron Gagnon (shoulder) and Tom Wandell (ribs) were also out for Iowa.
