The Iowa Stars had a solid week on the road, winning
three of four games that included two shutout wins in Houston.
After dropping the first game of their trip 6-3 in Manitoba on
Tuesday, the Stars won 4-1 the next night in Manitoba and then headed to
Houston, where Steve Silverthorn posted a shutout on Friday and Tobias Stephan
posted a shutout on Sunday.
The three straight wins lifted the Stars, who have won six of
their last nine games, back to the .500 mark
(26-26-2-2) on the season, and leaves them five points out of a playoff spot.
Injured forward Francis Wathier, who is expected to return to
the lineup in the next two weeks or so, said a recent team meeting may have
helped turn things around.
"I think this all started before the road trip. I would say
five games before the road trip we had a big meeting with the coaches and they
really put everything in our face," Wathier said Monday night on the Stars'
weekly radio show. "They said, 'Hey, you guys know what to do and if you want to
be part of the playoffs you know what to do. ... The guys are doing a great job.
Before we went on the road we beat Peoria and it was just a hard working game.
We were able to bring that on the road trip, and it was a great road trip."
Iowa plays four games in the coming week, including a three-game homestand that
opens Tuesday. |
