Prospects statistical update

Thursday, October 25, 2007

Here's a statistical update on Dallas Stars prospects playing junior hockey in Canada and the U.S., and those playing in college and Europe.

The prospect who had the biggest week was goalie Richard Bachman of Colorado College. The freshman stopped 61 of 63 shots in his first two college starts to lead his team to a two-game sweep of then third-ranked Minnesota.

Bachman stopped 23 shots in a 3-1 win on Friday and then mad 38 saves as the Tigers prevailed 2-1 in overtime on Saturday.

"He made some big-time saves down the stretch, there's no doubt about it, and we were real fortunate to be in a position to win, because of him," Colorado College coach Scott Owens told the Denver Post after Saturday's win. "We were concerned a little bit to play a youngster back to back, you know, as a freshman, but ... he looked so confident and poised in the exhibition games, and he was effective (despite) coming in cold in both of those.

"We just said, 'Heck with it, we're going to go with him Friday night,' and he played so well we couldn't keep him out of there."

Said Minnesota center Blake Wheeler, "You’ve got to tip your hat to the kid. We put close to 40 shots on him, and he gave up one goal."

Bachman, a fourth round pick (120th overall) by the Stars in 2006, and his teammates were a perfect 11-11 on the penalty kill in the two games.

"I'm just proud of the team in front of me," Bachman said. "I just tried not to think too much, and just react."

The Salt Lake City native spent last season in the United States Hockey League.

Sacchetti named to USA team

Stars prospect Nico Sacchetti was among those named to the USA roster Wednesday for the upcoming 2007 World Junior A Challenge. The tournament will be held from November 5-11 in British Columbia. The USA team, two Canadian teams and entries from Russia, Germany and Belarus will compete in the tournament.
