Prospects Notes

Thursday, June 26, 2008

One of the Stars' top prospects will get a shot at making Canada's National Junior Team, while another will be heading to one of Canadian junior hockey's top franchises.

Forward Sergei Korostin, a third round pick (64th overall) in 2007, was selected by the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League in Thursday's CHL Import Draft.

Korostin, who is from Russia, made the jump to North America in the middle of last season, joining the Texas Tornado of the North American Hockey League. Korostin had eight goals and ten assists in 19 games for the Tornado.

London, which has former NHL player Dale Hunter as president and head coach, won the Memorial Cup in 2005 and has helped develop recent first overall picks in the NHL Draft such as Rick Nash and Patrick Kane.

The Knights are expected to play a puck possession and skating game this season that is similar to the style of the Detroit Red Wings.

Stars prospect Benn invited to Canadian development camp

Stars prospect Jamie Benn was among 45 players invited to Canada's National Junior Team development camp, which will be held July 25-29 in Ottawa.

Benn, a fifth round selection in 2007 who scored 33 goals in 51 games for Kelowna of the WHL this past season, will be making his first appearance at the Canadian camp.

The camp is the first step in selecting the Canadian team that will play in the 2009 World Junior Championship, which will be held in Ottawa in December and January.
