Prospect Notes Saturday, August 18, 2007 A week before the Dallas Stars hit the ice in Frisco for training camp, several of their prospects will be in Traverse City, Michigan for a prospects tournament involving several other NHL teams. Top prospects James Neal, Matt Niskanen, Mark Fistric and Perttu Lindgren are among the players on the Stars preliminary roster. The current roster is made up 16 Dallas prospects and seven tryout players. Twenty-one of the players on the rosters were at last month's development camp in Frisco. Four of the Stars' 2007 draft picks - Luke Gazdic, Michael Neal, Ondrej Roman and Colton Sceviour are on the preliminary roster. The only two who weren't in Frisco last month are defensemen Scott Aarssen and David Stich. Here's the preliminary Dallas roster for the tournament, which begins September 7.
The tournament features prospects from Columbus, Minnesota, St. Louis, Atlanta, Detroit, New York Rangers and Tampa Bay. The Stars prospects will play in a group with prospects Minnesota, St. Louis and Columbus, and will play one game against each of those teams. There will be a playoff game against one of the four teams depending on where the team finishes in the standings after the first three games. Canada/Russia Super Series Notes Hockey Canada has released the Russian roster for the upcoming Canada/Russian Super Series and, as expected, Stars prospect Sergei Korostin will not be playing for the Russian squad. He is out due to injury. Stars prospect Ivan Vishnevskiy will be playing for Russia when the eight-game series gets underway August 27.
