Turco picked for NHLPA committee
/Andrew's Dallas Stars Page
There is a lot going on with the NHLPA these days and it looks like Stars goalie Marty Turco is going to one of the players that will help the PA get things back on track. TSN’s Darren Dreger has a report today:
A committee has been formed to review and very likely rewrite the National Hockey League PA’s constitution.
Dallar Stars goaltender Marty Turco, Boston Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas, along with Florida Panthers forward Dominic Moore and Buffalo’s Steve Montador have been appointed by the PA’s executive board to conduct a thorough study of the union’s constitution, as well as determine any necessary changes.
Sources say the group of four will begin their work in the very near future, a project one NHL player says will be the first step in the rebuilding of a strong union.

Here are some notes from Wednesday’s practice in Frisco
Fabian Brunnstrom did not practice today due to a shoulder injury. He is out for tomorrow’s game in San Jose. His status for Saturday’s game in Phoenix is up in the air.
Here’s were the practice lines and defensive combinations and the lines and D pairings should be what they’ll roll out tomorrow in San Jose.
Neal-Richards-Eriksson
Morrow-Ribeiro-Benn
Petersen-Modano-Lehtinen
Ott-Wandell-Barch
Sutherby

It looks like Sutherby and Woywitka will be the scratches.

Trapezoid will stay
/Andrew's Dallas Stars Page
There was some talk that the trapezoid area, which restricts where goalies can handle the puck, might bite dust at the GM meeting in Toronto. It didn’t happen:
NHL general managers have decided to keep those trapezoids behind the nets, and they will discuss a potential new rule aimed at reducing hits to the head.
On the first day of the general managers’ meeting Tuesday, the group decided to stick with the trapezoid rule, which limits the area in which goalies may play the puck. The possibility of eliminating the rule was discussed, but the talks didn’t gain much momentum. The trapezoid rule was introduced as part of a package of changes coming out of the NHL lockout in 2005.

A few notes from Tuesday’s practice in Frisco:
James Neal (groin) and Krys Barch (back) were both back on the ice today and went through a full practice. It was an intense, physical practice and both seemed to handle it well.
Fabian Brunnstrom suffered a mild shoulder injury during a two-on-two drill and didn’t finish practice. The hope is he’ll be back for tomorrow’s practice.
With Brunnstrom out and Mike Modano and Brenden Morrow having the day off (In Toronto for Hall of Fame ceremony), it was hard to distinguish lines.
On the defensive side, Karlis Skrastins and Matt Niskanen were paired to together for the second straight day. Trevor Daley skated with Mark Fistric and, as usual, Stephane Robidas and Nicklas Grossman were together. Jeff Woywitka was the seventh guy.

A few notes from Monday’s practice in Frisco;
James Neal (groin) and Krys Barch (back) did not practice today, but both are expected to return to practice tomorrow.
There was some line juggling today. Jamie Benn moved back to the line with Mike Ribeiro and Brenden Morrow. Jere Lehtinen was put on a line with Mike Modano and Brunnstrom was moved to that line as well. Brian Sutherby filled in for Neal on the line with Brad Richards and Loui Eriksson:
Once Neal comes back in, there will have to be some decisions made about that fourth line. Here’s how it looked today.
Sutherby-Richards-Eriksson
Morrow-Ribeiro-Benn
Brunnstrom-Modano-Lehtinen
Ott-Wandell-Petersen
One other note, Modano and Morrow won’t be at practice tomorrow since they are heading to Toronto today for Brett Hull’s Hall of Fame induction.
