Here are Avery’s comments today. Wait a little after it goes to black. There is reaction from some of the Stars players.

Perfect.  Because the Stars need this now.

With all the head-ache-causing athletes in Dallas, Sean Avery just leapfrogged the entire list.  Move over, TO, Pacman, Padilla, Josh Howard…

Why does he just have to open his friggen mouth?  Just shut up and play hockey!!!  Your team is in last place, and frankly I don’t care who your ex-girlfriend is or who she’s sleeping with.  I’d love to know why you can’t put a puck in a net.

Moron.  Absolute moron.

Mark - I dont get it. Whats the big deal? Are they reading too much into his comments? He didnt say anything except he thinks its funny people date his ex’s! We all know he likes to get under people’s skin… thats all i think he was doing… Has he ver had a retalitory confrontation (assuming thats what they think this will lead to)?

OK, after watching it… “Sloppy seconds” isnt very becoming of a top professional athlete… although its quite funny.

Andrew,

I think the whole walking up and making a statement to the media didn’t help matters either. He made sure everyone had their cameras rolling.

The best comment I’ve heard on the subject comes from the DMN Stars blog courtesy of Tim MacMahon…

“I won’t go into what “sloppy seconds” means, but it’s not a hockey term.”

I don’t see how that warrants being supspended from playing a game in professional sports.  Totally lame of the league.

And Tom Hicks is so weak for sucking up to the league.  Maybe he should go back to palling around with Sarah Palin.

Something you people need to understand as well as the people on the DMN blog is that its not about a freedom of speech or being lame… Its about being s stand up professional athlete for the NHL… all players have to accept the responsibility of being a professional “salesman” for the league and this was no where near being professional. Taking personal digs at fellow players in public should not be tolerated.

I’m more offended by your use of the phrase “you people” than what Sean Avery said.  It’s definitely more disrespectful.

Thats fine with me. You should work on not being so literary sensitive.

What is really sad is I think our GM’s put as much thought into signing avery as he did before opening his big mouth this morning.  avery is sucking up way too much of our salary cap. He should be dumped before he becomes a spectacle that over shadows the poor start this team is off to.

Good article up on ESPN.com by Scott Burnside. Apparently, Avery’s actions recently in Boston drew some ire from the organization.

If the Stars get to the point of buying him out this summer, it would cost them approx. $1.3 million a year for six years against the cap.  Money well spent, I think.
