Gold for Morrow and Canada
Canada wins 3-2 in overtime on a goal by Sidney Crosby. It was a great game. Pretty evenly matched game if you asked me. Give the U.S. credit for overcoming the 2-0 deficit and forcing the overtime.
Canada struggled early in the tournament but came on strong at the end. I think the USA did a lot better than anyone expected.
Stars captain Brenden Morrow had an outstanding Olympics. He got off to a slow start but really came on strong and made a big impact for the Canadians. He was one of their most effective forwards and by the end of it he was playing on both the power play and penalty kill and was out there late in games helping protect the lead.
Marc Crawford said Morrow was coming on strong a couple weeks before the Olympics and I am betting he’s going to be really strong down the stretch for the Stars. They’ll need him as they make the push for the playoffs.
Overall, the Olympics were excellent. Some great hockey and some great games.
Just a couple of notes:
Tournament MVP was Ryan Miller of the USA
Best goalie was Ryan Miller of the USA
Best forward was Jonathan Toews of Canada
Best defenseman was Brian Rafalski of the USA
Here are the media All-Stars of the tournament:
G – Ryan Miller (USA)
D – Brian Rafalski (USA)
D – Shea Weber (CAN)
F – Jonathan Toews (CAN)
F – Zach Parise (USA)
F – Pavol Demitra (SVK)

Heckuva tournament and heckuvan effort from the USA. Nobody - NOBODY - expected them to even sniff a medal, yet they took the favorite, Canada, to OT in the gold medal game. Disappointing to come up a bit short, of course, but an outstanding tournament!
And kudos to Canada on the gold medal. The pressure on them at home had to have been palpable, yet they pulled it out at the crucial moment to bring an incredible sense of pride to all Canadians...and those of us, like me, born to Canadian parents!
Now, let’s see if Captain Brenden can ignite something similar in the Stars down the stretch! Go Stars!!
