Stars-Sharks thoughts
Well, the score was an accurate reflection of how the two teams played. The Stars were strong from the first shift of the game and continued for pretty much the full 60 minutes. The Sharks? Go figure. They simply got outplayed on this night. The Stars seem to have their number, taking four of the six games this season.
Strong game for Steve Ott, who picked up his first career hat trick. He’s now got 19 goals on the season, matching the career-high he set last season. Ott can do a lot of things, including being productive offensively. It’s a big reason why he got that nice extension from the Stars just before the trade deadline.
Assist of the night has to go to Brian Sutherby, who set up Ott’s second goal and took a big hit from Doug “Crankshaft” Murray in the process. Talk about taking a hit to making a play. (video below)
Speaking of hits, Mark Fistric was a force out there. The stats sheet had him with ten hits in the game. I thought his hit on Torrey Mitchell early in the game really helped set a physical tone for the Stars. Fistric has been very impressive lately.
Marty Turco had a solid game in net.
