Crawford on Modano
Just talked with Stars coach Marc Crawford about Mike Modano’s status after the appendectomy today. He said Modano’s out indefinitely and they’ll have to see how he comes off the surgery.
“I guess it matters how intrusive they are. No one knows for sure. I would think he’ll play again this year,” Crawford said. “We’ll just have to see how he comes out of it. He’ll be indefinite until we see him come out of it.”
Right now, there’s no plan to call anybody up. They’ve got a couple extra forwards and Crawford said he’ll probably bring Brian Sutherby back into the lineup tomorrow against the Sharks.
Based on the Stars’ remaining schedule published in the DMN this morning, it looks like the final game of the season at Minnesota won’t be televised. What a travesty if that turns out to be Mike Modano’s last NHL game.
The Stars might want to take some action to get that game televised. We’re talking about the franchise’s best player of all time and a possible future Hall of Famer. His final game won’t be on TV, and from Minnesota, where it all started, no less? Ugh.
Drew,
I asked the Stars about that Minnesota game last week and they were confident it would be on TV. They realize the possible significance of the game.
Mike Heika reports that he’s already back home.

This makes me beyond sad for Modano, and for us who love to watch him play. Here’s to a swift recovery!
