Stars center Brad Richards was in studio today with Bob and Dan for a two segment interview. There was some hockey talk, but not a lot. Towards the end of segment two they go through Richards’ Wikipedia page, and sort out fact from fiction. Find out if Brad really is an formally trained classical pianist, as Wikipedia states. Also of note, prior to segment two there was a breakdown of the BaD Radio fantasy football league. Richards’ team and Brenden Morrow’s team missed the playoffs.

Instead of two football guys talking to Brad, I wish they would give him the respect and courtesy of two hockey fans.

Here we are making everything into football analogies and comparisons.  I know they mean well, but it’s disrespectful and there isn’t much for Brad to respond to.  Honestly, Canadians are culturally different than Texans.  They should seriously think about educating themselves about hockey before they continue to pull in more hockey players.  Although somewhat entertaining, this segment could be so much more interesting.

Questions they could have asked include:

- How does he see his game stack up against Thornton’s?
- What are areas of his game he’d like to work?
- What areas does he wish his wingers to work on?
- If he will consider continuing his summer training program in Tampa or of he opts to return to his on-ice workouts in Canada
- His social life in Texas and how he finds the city

More importantly, instead of getting hockey players to play fantasy hockey, the radio personalities should themselves convert and play fantasy hockey.

Imagine play fantasy hockey with actual NHL players.  The kinds of info, insight, critiques would be pretty amazing.

For example, if Richards had drafted Ovechkin, he could talk about Ovechkin’s absence and suspension, aggressive play, etc.  He can talk about Ovechkin vs Crosby, the Stars defense, which goalie he picked and why...to hockey fans, this would be much much more interesting…

Just a suggestion…

Er...the line should have read:

“More importantly, instead of getting hockey players to play fantasy football, the radio personalities should themselves convert and play fantasy hockey.”

Or they could do an interview that would be interesting and entertaining to Stars fans instead of the same interview you can hear on TSN or XM Hockey.

Richards is a notoriously hard guy to get personality out of, and I’d rather listen to him do something entertaining and talk about things other than hockey instead of give the game boring, substance-free quotes again.

I find non-hockey talk so much more entertaining and insightful than talk about Thornton, the Canadian Olympic team and summer training (honestly, is there anything more boring than summer workouts?).
