Roster cuts

The Stars haven’t made an official announcement about roster cuts but they are down to 23 players based on what was rolled out at practice today.  Jamie Benn and Tom Wandell are still on the roster for now and Andrew Hutchinson is on waivers. Right now they have 14 forwards, 7 defensemen and the two goalies.

Stars head coach Marc Crawford said Benn and Wandell both deserved to have made it this far, but there’s still a week to go. Right now Jere Lehtinen (hip/groin) is still out and Brenden Morrow (muscle tightness) is out as well. Morrow’s close to returning but Lehtinen is still up in the air. If the Stars get healthy up front, then a decision could have to be made on whether to possibly cut the forward group by one more.

Crawford said Hutchinson didn’t show enough during this training camp and carrying eight defensemen was something they didn’t want to do because they’d end up sitting out two players each game when everybody is available.

Hutchinson probably won’t be an announced as a cut because he has to go through the waivers process. .

Here was the lineup in practice. No Morrow and he probably won’t play tomorrow against St. Louis. Lehtinen skated after practice.
