The free agent market is one place the Stars could find a backup and the trade route is another option. There are a couple of teams with some goaltender depth that could be in a position to deal. I haven't looked at every team's depth chart, but in my every day of reading stuff from around the league a couple of teams stand out.

One is Ottawa, which has Pascal Leclaire, Alex Auld and Brian Elliot. The Senators are pushing the cap and Auld, who makes $1 million, could be the odd guy out. The speculation in the the Ottawa media is that Auld could be had for a draft pick, fourth or fifth rounder maybe, but it could more than that.

Another team with some goaltender depth is Atlanta, which has Kari Lehtonen, Ondrej Pavelec and former Star Johan Hedberg. The Thrashers are looking for some help at forward and either Lehtonen or Pavelec could be a bargaining chip. Hedberg is likely to stay in Atlanta. If there's no deal that works for them, the Thrashers might let those three battle it out in camp and the preseason and see what shakes out.

Phoenix as well with Montoya, LaBarbera and Stars KILLER ILYA B.
