Stars-Coyotes thoughts

Well, that wasn’t pretty. They played into Phoenix’s hands, coughing up the puck way too much and the Coyotes took advantage of some quality chances. Ilya Bryzgalov came up big for Phoenix early in the game, especially when the Stars were on the power play and that was another key. It didn’t help that the Stars took two penalties that took them off power plays either. Marc Crawford talked about the team’s lack of patience or straying from the plan and trying to force things when things didn’t go their way early, especially with the missed opportunities on the power play. Bottom line, not much went right.
Give some credit to the Coyotes. The line of Korpikoski, Lombardi and Upshall was flying in the game and factored in three of the five goals, Korpikoski got two of them after not registering a point in his first 16 games this season. As I mentioned, Bryzgalov was very good in the game too.
Tampa Bay in town Saturday night. The Lightning are coming off a 5-1 win over the Rangers Friday night. Steven Stamkos is having a great season for for them. They’ve got some good talent and their record is similar to the Stars: 10-6-7. And they are 1-5 in shootouts.
