Thursday update

It wasn't a good Wednesday night for the Stars. Both Anaheim and Minnesota won, so the Stars have to win tonight just to not lose more ground to those two teams. The Ducks win was significant because it temporarily pushed Edmonton down to the 8th spot and no matter what the Oilers do tonight they've been pulled back into the fray for the final spots. The more teams the less merrier for the Stars. The Oilers and Ducks play twice here in the next few days, so that means points are going someone in the race and that makes it more difficult for the Stars even if they win games or collect points.
Key games tonight that have a bearing on the Stars are Edmonton at Phoenix, San Jose at Nashville and Vancouver at St. Louis.
The points pace for the final playoff spot is up to 89 points, meaning the Stars would need to go 7-1-1 or 6-0-3 over their final nine games to get to that level.
The Stars' tragic number is now 13, according to nhlplayoffrace.com.
They are in 8th as far as the draft lottery position, according to TSN.
