Here's a look at some draft trends for the Dallas Stars from the period covering 2005 to 2008. This covers the four drafts since the lockout and since the league instituted new rules on the draft.

Some of those changes included shortening the draft to seven rounds and changing the rules regarding the signing of European draft picks.

Some other notes:

  • Four of the players of the 25 drafted since 2005 - Matt Niskanen, James Neal, Tom Wandell, and Ivan Vishnevskiy - have played for the Stars in the NHL.
     
  • Twelve of the 25 players are currently under contract with the Stars.
     
  • Eight of the 25 players drafted by the Stars from 2005 to 2008 went on to play college hockey after being selected.
     
  • Two of the players selected - Richard Clune and David McIntyre - were traded. Clune was traded for prospect Lauri Tukonen (traded to Tampa Bay for defenseman Andrew Hutchinson) and McIntyre was sent to Anaheim in the deal that brought Brian Sutherby to Dallas.
