Stars News & Notes: Statistical tidbits
A few statistical tidbits, Landon Wilson begins some light workouts and the Stars sign one of their promising young prospects.
Here's a look at some disturbing trends regarding the Stars these days.
Regulation woes
- The Stars haven't won a game in regulation since
the New Year's Eve win over New Jersey. In other words, they haven't
won a regulation game yet in the month of January.
- The Stars have just three win in regulation over
their last 20 games, a stretch that dates back to December 3.
- The Stars have lost seven games in regulation
during that stretch and ten other games have gone to overtime.
- They've won seven of the overtime games, giving them a 10-7-3 overall record during those 20 games.
Third period woes
- The Stars have not outscored an opponent in the
third period since the New Year's Eve game against New Jersey. Loui
Eriksson's empty net goal gave them a 1-0 third period advantage in
that game.
- In the eight games in January the Stars have been
outscored 12-5 in the third period, including 8-3 in third periods
over the last three games.
- For the season the Stars have been outscored 52-31 in third periods. That minus-21 goal differential in the third period is the second worst in the league. Only the New York Islanders, who have been outscored 65-40, have a worse goal differential in the third period.
Road woes
- The Stars are 2-5-2 in their last nine road
games. That stretch dates back to December 3.
- Not including shootout goals, the Stars have been outscored 27-10 in those seven losses on the road.
Wilson starts light workouts
Stars forward Landon Wilson, who has been out since early January with an injury to his ribs, said Tuesday night that he has begun light workouts.
"Starting to work out means a light bike ride," Wilson said during an appearance on the Dallas Stars Hockey Show with Craig Ludwig on 105.3 The Fan. "Unfortunately, I can't do anything more than that and in my case it's just steps and steps that are taken real slow."
Wilson was injured January 3 in Edmonton and has missed the last seven games. On Monday the Stars placed him on injured reserve retroactive to January 3.
Stars sign prospect Sceviour
The Stars Tuesday announced they signed prospect Colton Sceviour to a three-year entry-level contract. The 19-year-old right wing is currently playing for the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the Western Hockey League, where he ranked 14th in the league in scoring with 52 points (21 goals, 31 assists) in 45 games heading into Tuesday night's games.
Sceviour, who is 6-2, 200 pounds, was selected by the Stars in the fourth round (112th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
