Nick Reminds us of Hitch

NickSometimes Andrew's younger brother Nick reminds us of Stars coach Ken Hitchcock. Sometimes Hitch says something and people misinterpret it. The same thing happens with Nick.
Last week Hitch criticized Mike Modano and Brett Hull and people thought he was saying they weren't trying. He wasn't really saying that. He was questioning their focus and the type of game they were playing.
Recently Nick said something and Dad misinterpreted it. It led to some controversy around our household the same way Hitch's comments did on sports talk radio and in the newspaper.
Nick came up to Dad one day and instructed him that he wanted a piece of toast with peanut butter on it. This seemed pretty simple. Dad put a piece of bread in the toaster and when it popped up he slapped some peanut butter on it. He then gave it go Nick, who promptly blew a gasket and started yelling at Dad.
"No, no, no!" Nick yelled. "I want white peanut butter."
What Nick wanted is a piece of toast with plain old butter on it. In other words, there are two kinds of peanut butter in Nick's world. There's the white kind and the brown kind with the little chunks of peanuts in it.
When Nick says he wants peanut butter then what he really wants is butter unless he specifies otherwise.
This is just one of those little nuances you have to learn when dealing with Nick. When Nick says he wants a hamburger, he doesn't want what most people consider a hamburger.
He wants a biscuit sandwiched around some breakfast sausage, egg and cheese. That is unless you are at McDonalds. Then when he says he wants a hamburger he wants a traditional hamburger. Like Hitch, you have to understand what Nick means and not make a literal translation of his statements.
In other new, Nick picked up one goal on the week to go with four minutes in penalties.
Nick picked up a goal when he mastered a new concept -- knowing. When Dad told Nick something one day Nick responded by saying, "I know that."
He was assessed a double minor for slashing after took a can of Pringles potato chips and crumbled them up all over Mommy's favorite chair. Mommy was pretty mad about it. Nick is now banned from brining any food into the living room. He also lost his chip eating privileges.
Mary Katherine's basketball team, the Hornets, lost their season opener 14-8. Mary Katherine didn't score, but she had a rebound, a steal and played some pretty stellar defense.
