Nick experiences a first

Andrew's younger brother Nick got to experience a first on New Year's Eve. For the first time in his three years on the planet, he got to play in snow. He liked it.

He picked up the snow and threw it. That was fun. He liked it when he made a foot print in the snow. He pointed out all the places the snow had fallen. It was on the mailbox. It was on Mommy's hat.

He learned to brush the snow off his gloves. He fell in the snow and didn't seem to mind. He got in a snowball fight with big sister Mary Katherine and her friends. He liked that too.

"I like this snow," he proclaimed. He had a blast.

Of course, Nick was not totally unfamiliar with the concept of snow. It snows in "Bambi" and in some of his "Winnie the Pooh" tapes. This was just his first chance to experience it up close and personal.

Nick had a pretty good week. He picked up one goal, his 12th of the season. Nick got the goal when Dad gave him a task to do. Nick did it. Dad said, "Good job." Nick responded with, "I do my best." This would be music to the ears of Stars coach Ken Hitchcock these days.

Nick picked up four minutes in penalties. He got a couple of unsportsmanlike conduct calls for whining. Nick has a problem with being told no these days. He starts crying and says, "You say no-no. Why you do that?"

He even complains if Andrew or Mary Katherine are told no. It doesn't seem to bother Nick when either of the pets are told not to do something.

The kids are all enjoying their holiday break. There have been very few scrums, which has been a pleasant surprise.
