Motivating Nick

Like the Dallas Stars, Andrew's younger brother Nick seems to be stepping up his game with the playoffs approaching. Nick picked up five goals this week, running his season total to 27.

Nick got the goals for earning potty stickers. Every time he uses the potty he gets a sticker. Once he got five stickers he was allowed to go to the store and buy a toy. He opted for a space ship toy.

We don't mean to tell Stars coach Ken Hitchcock how to mind his business, but he might want to think about the sticker system.

Every time a player, say Brett Hull, plays a good game Hitch can give him a sticker. After Hull gets five stickers Hitch can take him out to buy a toy.

We don't know if it would work with Hull, but it is sure working with Nick. He hasn't been perfect on the potty issue, but he has been doing much better since the sticker reward system was introduced by Mommy.

It works better than Dad's style, which resembles Hitch's style of dealing with lackluster performances.

Like Derian Hatcher, Nick is sending messages with the playoffs approaching. Hatcher sends his messages with big hits. Nick prefers to use words. When Nick says to someone "You get up in the bed" that means he wants you to read him one of his books.

Nick is also showing a lot of discipline as the playoffs approach. He did not pick up any penalty minutes this past week. He didn't even come close.

Not much new on Andrew or Mary Katherine. MK got her glasses this past week. She looks quite good in them and seems to enjoy wearing them.

Andrew is starting to show increased interest in the Stars, now that the playoffs are approaching. Andrew has become a savvy fan in that he realizes that the regular season can be pretty boring and the real fun doesn't begin until the post-season.
