Nick Update

Sometimes Andrew's younger brother Nick reminds us of an NHL referee. With the refs, you're never sure how they are going to call a game. One night everything gets called. The next night very little gets called.

With Nick you are never sure how is going to react to you first thing in the morning. When Andrew and Dad see Nick first thing in the morning they will say "Hey, Nick."

But they never know how he is going to respond. One day Nick will say "Hey" back. The next one he may start screaming " No. No. Go away."

In other words, Nick, like NHL referees, can be unpredictable. For example, Nick loves cookies. Yet one day we were at the local Kroger and the bakery lady offered Nick a cookie.

"No. No. Go away. I don't want it," Nick shouted at the bakery lady.

Dad took the cookie and put in the shopping cart seat next to Nick. Nick then picked up the cookie and ate it. Go figure. That's just life with Nick.

There are times Nick blows a gasket when our dog Natasha lurks around him while he is eating.

"No. No. Go away, Tasha," Nick will yell, fearful that the canine will steal his food. Ten seconds later Nick will give Natasha his food. We're still trying to figure this one out.

And there are times Nick reminds us of Stars coach Ken Hitchcock, who is known as a perfectionist. The Stars may win a game, but if they didn't win it the right way Hitchcock may gripe about it.

Ditto with Nick. He may ask for a drink, but if you fail to deliver it the exact way he wants he can get bent out of shape. You may have put it in the wrong color cup. Maybe he wanted Mommy to get it for him, not you. You will figure this out when Nick starts yelling "No. No. I don't want it."

Overall, Nick had a pretty uneventful week. He picked up no points. His only penalty was a high sticking major. He got this after hitting his sister Mary Katherine's friend Carli in the head with a wooden duck.

As for Mary Katherine and Andrew, it was a pretty uneventful week as well. They both returned to school and took some of those standardized tests.
