Sometimes Stars
coach Ken Hitchcock sounds like a broken record. You can say the
same thing about Andrew's younger brother Nick.
With the Stars mired in a three game losing
streak Hitchcock continues to harp on puck strength, positioning
and turnovers. It probably gets old after a while for the
players.
Andrew knows their frustration. Nick, like
Hitch, is very unforgiving when it comes to mistakes and he loves
to point them out over and over to his older brother.
Nick doesn't bug Andrew about something like
puck strength. His focus is on a little yellow tassle that used
to be attached to the chain on our living room ceiling fan.
A long time ago, Andrew accidentally pulled the
tassle off. Nick saw him do it. Now, anytime Nick looks at that
ceiling fan and Andrew is around Nick will say "Andrew broke
it."
Sometimes Nick will say it over and over in a
matter of minutes and an exasperated Andrew will respond,
"Yes Nick. I broke it."
It's gotten to the point where even Mommy is
tired of Nick harping on Andrew.
Otherwise, Nick had an excellent week, picking
up three goals to go along with seven penalty minutes. Nick got
his first goal for using the potty three times in one day at
daycare.
He picked up another one for using the potty at
home a couple of times. We really feel Nick is turning the corner
on this aspect of this game.
His third goal came when he showed signs of
mastering another element of his game -- his letters. Nick's
already pretty good with his numbers. But now he is starting to
get the hang of letters.
The letter he recognizes easily, of course, is
N. Anytime Nick sees a word that begins with N he proclaims
"That's Nick." If Nick sees the word nacho he'll say
"That's Nick." He regognizes that his name begins with
N. That is progress.
On the penalty front, Nick picked up one
unsportsmanlike conduct minor. He was assessed this after defying
Mommy's order that he not open the bathroom door while she was
getting dressed. He did it anyway.
He also got a high sticking major after bouncing
a plastic frog off Andrew's head.
As for Andrew, there's not much new. He did get
a big kick out of reading the Dallas Morning News article about
our scrum with Rivals. He also used some of his money to buy yet
another video game.
Mary Katherine continues on with her
cheerleading duties. Her team, the Hawks, have lost just one game
all season. They may be a force in the playoffs.
She has also become fascinated with dead things.
She and her friend Carli spent a few hours one day looking around
the neighborhood for dead animals and insects. The little
adventure really sparked her curiosity.
She sought out Dad and wondered about the
whereabouts of our cat John, who died last year. She was
disappointed to learn that Animal Control laid him to rest.
